How to manage programs, credentials, and courses
Create a program
- In the Kenii admin, open Catalog > Programs.
- Click Add Program.
- Enter the Program Name.
- Set Program Type by picking from the + Add Type dropdown. Pick both Curriculum and Continuing Education if the program offers both.
- Optionally enter the CIP Code.
- Assign one or more Program Areas from the dropdown, or click + Create new area to add one inline.
- If your catalog has campuses, assign the program to the campuses it’s offered at under Campuses.
- Click Save.
If you need a new program area that doesn’t exist yet, do this from the + Create new area control on the program editor rather than leaving the field blank, see How to manage your lists to manage program areas separately.
If the program is Continuing Education only, open the Details tab that appears after you add that program type, see How to manage Continuing Education courses for the equivalent course-level fields.
Add a credential to a program
- Open the program and go to its Credentials tab. The program must already be saved.
- Click + Add Credential.
- Choose a credential type (Certificate, Diploma, or Associate Degree), an optional name, and the credit total.
- Click Create.
- Open the new credential from Catalog > Credentials to fill in the rest: State Code, Total Credits, and Learning Outcomes.
If you need a credential type beyond Certificate, Diploma, or Associate Degree, add it first in Manage Lists > Credential Types, see How to manage your lists.
To build out what a credential requires, go to its Requirements tab, see How to build requirements with groups.
To lay out a semester-by-semester plan, use the credential’s Plan of Study tab.
Add a course
- Open Catalog > Courses.
- Click Add Course.
- Enter the Course Code (format
PREFIX-NUMBER, for exampleACC-120) and Course Title. - Set Course Type to Curriculum.
- Enter the Description.
- Fill in Credits, Class, Lab, Clinic, and Work hours under Hours.
- Enter Prerequisites and Corequisites as comma-separated course codes.
- Click Save.
If the course is Continuing Education (clock hours, tuition, a register link, no credit hours), set Course Type to Continuing Education instead, see How to manage Continuing Education courses for the fields that appear.
If a course should show up as a standalone offering on a program’s page (not just inside a credential’s requirement list), set its Parent Program in the Advanced section of the course editor. Leave Parent Program blank for courses that only appear inside a credential’s requirements.
If a course transfers to UNC System institutions, turn on Transfer Approved in Advanced.
If your catalog has campuses, assign the course to the campuses it’s offered at under Campuses.
Add the courses a credential requires
Course requirements (which courses, grouped by section, with credit or choose-one rules) live on the credential, not the course. See How to build requirements with groups.
Delete a program, credential, or course
- From the relevant list (Programs, Credentials, or Courses), open the row actions menu for the item.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm in the dialog. This cannot be undone.
Deleting a program does not delete its credentials or courses; unlink or delete those separately if you no longer need them.
