How to enable handbook search

Applies to 2.11.0 and later

Turn on the handbook search box and confirm it's finding your content

Handbook search is on by default. Use this if it’s been turned off, or if you want to confirm it’s working.

  1. Open Settings > Page Layout.
  2. Under Hero Banner, turn on Handbook Search.
  3. Click Save.

Turning this off removes the search box (and the “no results” state) from the handbook page, but leaves the handbook’s sections and pages in place.

Confirm search is finding your content

Search matches against each handbook page’s title and its published body content, plus its section heading. Pages with an empty body only match on title and section name.

  1. Open Handbook > Policies and confirm the pages you expect to find have real body content, not just a title.
  2. Visit your published handbook page and search for a distinctive word or phrase from one of those pages.
  3. Confirm the matching section expands and the page is listed.

If a page doesn’t turn up, add or expand its body content in Handbook > Policies, see How to manage your lists for other catalog list content, or open Handbook > Builder to manage the handbook’s section structure.

Where it applies

The search box appears wherever the handbook renders: the [kenii_handbook] shortcode and the kenii/handbook block both read the same Handbook Search setting.
