Schedule continuing education classes

A continuing education course is the thing you teach. A class is one scheduled run of
it: a start date, an end date, the days it meets, where, what it costs, and how to sign up.

Keeping them apart means a course that runs three times a year is one course with three
classes, rather than one course whose schedule field has to be rewritten every term. It also
means a class disappears from the page by itself once it has finished, without anyone
remembering to delete a sentence.

Add a class

  1. Open Catalog > Courses and open a course whose type is Continuing Education.
  2. Find the Classes section.
  3. Click Add a class.
  4. Fill in at least the First day and Last day. Everything else is optional.
  5. Click Save class.

Each class saves on its own, so you can add several without leaving the course.

A new course has to be saved once before it can hold classes, because a class has to belong
to something.

What each field does

Field What it is for
First day, Last day Required. The last day decides when the class stops being listed.
Days it meets Free text, exactly as you would write it: “Tue, Thu”.
Starts at, Ends at The daily meeting time, not the term.
Campus Choose one of your campuses. Leave it on “Not a campus on record” if the class is held somewhere else.
Somewhere else Used when the class is not at a campus you have on file.
Room Building or room number.
Cost Written however your college states it, including anything like “$180 + $35 lab fee”. It is text, not a number.
Seats, Seats still open Both have to be filled in for either to show on the page.
Register link Leave empty and the class uses the course’s own register link.
Status Scheduled, Canceled or Full.

What people see

The course page lists the classes still to come, soonest first. A class that has ended is
kept but not shown, so your records stay intact while the page stays current.

A class you mark Canceled stays visible, labeled as canceled, with no way to register.
Someone who bookmarked it needs to find out it is off, rather than find nothing there.

When a course has no classes coming up, the page says so rather than showing an empty space.
You can change that sentence in Settings.

See every class at once

Catalog > Classes lists every upcoming class across all your courses, soonest first, so
you can see a whole term in one place and spot what is about to run out. Click any row to
open the course it belongs to. Classes are edited on their course, not on this screen.

If you already keep your schedule as text

Nothing you have written is touched. A course with no classes shows its schedule text exactly
as it always has.

Once you add a class to a course, that text moves under a heading called Schedule notes
and sits below the class list, which suits anything the class fields do not cover, like
parking or what to bring. If you would rather it went away, clear the field.

Call it something else

Some colleges say section, offering or session rather than class. Change the words in
Settings, under Course Page Details, and the course pages, the sidebar and the screens
all follow.
