Building Your Student Handbook
Publish your first handbook policy pages and confirm the built-in search box finds them
Building Your Student Handbook
The student handbook holds your college’s academic policies: grading, academic honesty, attendance, and the rest. In this tutorial you’ll publish two handbook pages and confirm students can search them, all from the Kenii admin.
What you’ll achieve
- Two published handbook pages, visible to students.
- A working search box on your handbook page.
Prerequisites
- A Catalog Editor or Administrator account (see Getting Started with Kenii Catalog).
- Your website already has a Handbook page built with the
[kenii_handbook]shortcode. A developer sets this up once when Kenii Catalog is installed. See the shortcode reference.
Step 1: Publish your first handbook page
- In the sidebar, open Handbook → Policies.
- Click Add Policy.
- Under Policy Title, type a title, for example Academic Honesty Policy.
- In the content area below, write the policy text.
- Optionally, fill in Section (a label for your own reference in this list) and Effective Date.
- Click Save.
A toast confirms the policy was saved, and a View ↗ link appears at the top of the page.
Step 2: Publish a second handbook page
Repeat Step 1 with a second policy, for example Grading Policy. Give it its own title and content, and save it.
Back on the Policies list, you now see both pages, each showing its status and section.
Step 3: View your handbook live
Open your site’s Handbook page in a browser tab. Both pages you published appear as entries: click one to expand it, and click through to read the full page.
Step 4: Confirm handbook search is on
Kenii turns on handbook search by default, so students can search your handbook page by keyword. Check that it’s still on:
- As an Administrator, open Settings → Page Layout.
- Under Hero Banner, find the Handbook Search toggle and confirm it’s on.
Note: Settings is only available to Administrator accounts, not Catalog Editors. If you’re a Catalog Editor and need this checked, ask an Administrator.
Back on your live Handbook page, a search box sits above your published pages. Type part of a policy title or a word from its content, and the list filters as you type.
You’ve now published a working, searchable student handbook. To add more pages, repeat Step 1 for each policy. For every setting that controls how the handbook looks, see the settings reference.
